Behavioral Medicine and Wellness Center

View Brochure

If you or a loved one is having difficulty coping with the everyday challenges of a mental illness, the Behavioral Medicine and Wellness Center at Salem Regional Medical Center may be able to provide the level of outpatient treatment needed to achieve the best quality of life. The service is operated in conjunction with Akron General Medical Center.

The Behavioral Medicine and Wellness Center offers two levels of outpatient treatment to meet the unique needs of individuals who do not qualify for an inpatient admission, yet may benefit from more intensive treatment than can be provided by traditional outpatient care. The program offers two levels of treatment, each with the goal of returning the patient to his or her previous care providers following completion. The program may serve as a transitional step down from an inpatient psychiatric admission, or help certain patients to avert admission into an inpatient program.

The two types of outpatient treatment programs offered at the Behavioral Medicine and Wellness Center are:

Partial Hospitalization - the highest level of outpatient care; requires the client to report to the center five days per week for four group sessions each day. Sessions are held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
Intensive Outpatient - the patient reports to the center up to four days per week, with the program day ranging from three to five hours. Sessions are held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.

This program allows patients to obtain the treatment needed during the day, and return to the comfort and familiarity of their own homes in the evening. Lunch is served at the center. Transportation can be arranged within Columbiana County.

Services Provided:

Group therapy facilitated by a licensed therapist
Individual and/or family counseling, as needed
Medication management by a board certified psychiatrist
Interventions by the nursing staff
Aftercare planning

The program serves adults 18 and older, including geriatric populations. Individuals with a variety of mental health diagnoses may qualify, however, clients must be cognitively and emotionally capable of participating in group therapy, and should demonstrate a reasonable expectation for improvement in their diagnosis and level of functioning. Participants may not be actively homicidal or suicidal.
