The birth of a baby is one of the most cherished moments of a lifetime. Led by an experienced team of physicians and staff, our award-winning maternity unit provides:

Spacious birthing suites equipped with the latest technology to help ensure a safe delivery

Telemedicine services in partnership with Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley to enhance care for premature or critically ill newborns at SRMC

Internationally board-certified lactation consultant on staff to offer breastfeeding support

Expectant parents can arrange a tour of the New Beginnings Family Care Center by calling 330-337-4989.

NBFCC is pleased to offer additional services to meet the needs of new families before and after delivery. Provided through the hospital's Family Education Program, courses are taught by certified instructors and include:

Childbirth Education Class: This course is offered one Saturday a month, from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., and covers a variety of childbirth topics including proper nutrition, signs of labor, anesthesia options, stages of labor with comfort measures, emotional support, vaginal and cesarean deliveries, and a partner's role throughout pregnancy and labor. Expectant mothers should complete the childbirth education class during their third trimester. Birthing partners are encouraged to attend. The course fee is $40.

Prepared Parenting Classes: This class provides hands on learning of basic infant care and covers topics such as bathing, cord care, diapering, feeding, burping, swaddling, temperature taking, circumcision care and jaundice baby care.

Breastfeeding Classes: During this class, mothers gain a thorough understanding of breastfeeding through a variety of topics such as proper nutrition, positions for breastfeeding and the management of complications. Lactation educators are on staff to provide individual assistance after delivery.

Breastfeeding Support Group: Led by an Internationally Certified Lactation Consultant, this group provides an opportunity for participants to ask questions, learn breastfeeding techniques, share concerns and discuss their experiences with other mothers. This support group is free and open to all new mothers, not just those who delivered their babies at NBFCC.

Cesarean Section Classes: To help expectant parents prepare for a scheduled C-Section, NBFCC provides classes explaining the procedure and recovery, as well as post-surgery precautions.

Parenting Refresher Classes: Refresher classes are offered for not-so-new parents who would like a review of labor and delivery. Breathing techniques, pain management and infant feeding issues are discussed.

Sibling Classes: To help big brothers and sisters adjust to a new baby, NBFCC provides free quarterly sibling education classes for children ages 3-10. Basic safety and infant care are covered, as well as issues the children feel are important as they prepare for their new roles. Participants also receive a guided tour of the maternity unit.

Grandparenting Classes: This free course acquaints expectant grandparents with the many changes in infant and pediatric care that have occurred since they raised their own families, while encouraging communication, understanding and support between generations. Topics covered include breastfeeding, nutrition, car seats, medications and infant massage. A tour of the maternity unit is also provided.

Infant/Child CPR Classes: Classes provide instruction on this basic life-saving measure for infants and children.
